PRP: Is it Safe?

Platelet-Rich plasma preparation

Looking for a way to restore a youthful, fresh glow to your face without going under the scalpel for a traditional facelift? A platelet-rich plasma treatment could give you the results you crave. Best of all, it’s a safe treatment that uses your own blood for a biocompatible, personalized, holistic approach to skin health.

At Sylvan Weight Loss and Aesthetics in Fresno, California, our team delivers a PRP facial combined with microneedling in a safe, effective procedure to rejuvenate your skin. It’s the perfect choice for anyone who lives a holistic lifestyle and wants a natural way to improve their appearance.

Creating PRP

Your blood is a plasma that’s full of red and white blood cells as well as powerful platelets. The platelets contain growth factors that boost your body’s natural ability to heal and rebuild itself.

We draw a small vial of blood (typically from the crook of your elbow inside your arm), and centrifuge it. This process filters out the red and white blood cells. What’s left is a smaller amount of plasma that has a high concentration of the platelets.

PRP is safe because it’s a 100%-natural product derived from your own blood, prepared in sterile conditions in our office. You don’t have to worry about biocompatibility or your body having a bad reaction to it.

Microneedling

Before applying the prepared PRP to your face, your practitioner completes the microneedling process. They use a handheld device that looks kind of like a pen, which has many extremely tiny needles inside it. As we run the device over your face, you’ll feel a mild prickling as the needles lightly penetrate the top layers of skin. This causes “micro injuries,” which are so small they don’t bleed or cause pain. Your body recognizes the holes as actual injuries, though, and springs into action to repair the “damage.”

PRP application

We apply the prepared PRP over your face directly after microneedling, allowing it to sink into the tiny wounds and boost the healing process. The growth factors go to work rebuilding skin structures by promoting the production of collagen and elastin to restore strength and elasticity and promote smoother skin.

These structural building blocks restore the scaffolding under the top layers of your skin. This can literally de-age your face by minimizing pore size and plumping out fine lines and wrinkles. The regenerative process even reverses sun damage and helps to fade and fill in acne scars. The entire process is minimally invasive and, as we’ve shown, completely safe.
